W. Bro. Harold NewtonHarold was born in Cobourg Ontario on November 06, 1946. He was the third child of four born to John Erwin and Marie Newton. His father was a Master Mason at St. John’s Lodge # 17 GRC AF&AM Cobourg Ont. In Cobourg Harold first attended a rural school house before moving to Edmonton Alberta. He returned to Ontario and attended high school in Port Hope and Cobourg then trade school in Toronto and Montreal. He also attained certification in several work related courses at Trent and Queen’s universities
He has been married for 39 happy years to his wife Beatrice. They have three sons Tim, Ken and Jeffery (whom he is also proud to have as his Brother, Jeff being a member of the Belleville Temple Lodge #123.) Bea and Harold have two grandchildren and a great grandson.
Harold was employed by Canadian National Railway as a machinist from 1966 until retiring in 2001. He worked in Toronto, Capreal, Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa, then returning to retire at Belleville as a Lead Hand Machinist.
He joined the Masonic order on April 26, 1976 in Montreal, Quebec at Wellington Lodge # 113 GRC AF&AM Grand Lodge of Quebec, (now Wellington/Allenby #89 GRC A F&A M), of which he is still a member.
He affiliated with Temple Lodge #666 GRC AF&AM in Belleville in 2001 (which is now part of The Belleville-Temple Lodge #123 as of 2007). He is also a affiliated member of Moria Lodge #11, Bellevile. Harold was honoured to be named "Mason of the Year" for 2005–2006 of Temple Lodge #666 AF&AM. He was the District Project Chairman for the 2008 Masonic year within the Masonic Ch.I.P Child ID Program and is still representing that on-going project for Prince Edward District. Harold says that this opportunity is his greatest reward to date.
Harold is a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Moore Sovereign Consistory Hamilton, Lodge of Perfection and Rose Croix Kingston.
He joined Rameses Temple and Belleville Shrine Club in June 2001, and became president in 2006. He is a member of the Clown Unit known as “HAPPY the CLOWN”. Harold was honoured to be named "Belleville Shriner of the Year" for 2003. As well, he is Commander for Rameses’ Legion of Honour for 2011
Over the years, Harold has been involved with Scouts Canada in both Montreal and Belleville. He held several positions as a Scouter up until retiring a few years ago.
He has been a member of Belleville Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, Belleville Amateur Baseball, Foxboro United Church Men's Club andThe Royal Canadian Legion.
