The "Journey of Hope" Project has been established by the Prince Edward District Masons to provide assistance to children on their healing journey. It is always a hope that healing will occur, and you and the local lodge can be part of it.
The project for 2011/2012 is called the "Journey of Hope" as it is a project focused on raising funds for the transportation of children with orthopedic or burn problems. This transportation is provided, with no cost to the families, to either the Montreal or the Fort Erie Shrine Hospitals. The monies raised will also provide funds for accommodations for the families while their child is undergoing surgery and recuperating in hospital.
This is a Masonic Project!! The operation of the 22 hospitals in North America is supported by Shriners, bequests, investments and public donations; everything is handled through the Imperial Shrine in Tampa. However, the transportation fund for the children and their families (at least 12-15 currently undergoing treatment in the Prince Edward District and many more in other Ontario districts) comes from personal donations, bequests and proceeds from projects such as that of our DDGM.
Please bear in mind that there are at least an additional two dozen children in Prince Edward District who still need semi-annual or annual checkups.
Donations may be sent to the Secretary of any of the thirteen District Lodges (look for the contact names under "Contact Us: Ask a Mason - Be a Mason" on this website) or the District Project Secretary (V.W. Bro. Ron Carter, 1261 Victoria Road, R.R. #1, Ameliasburgh, K0K 1A0). Cheques should be made payable to the "Masonic Foundation of Ontario" with reference to "Project #2461, Transportation Fund". To receive a tax receipt, please ensure you have provided your name and complete address in a clear and legible manner.
Together we can help the children on their Journey of Hope.
(V.W. Bro. James King: District Project Chairman)
